Dr. Prabhat Kumar Singh is a distinguished professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) (BHU) Varanasi. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 2000, following a Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering from the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) in 1988, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University in 1986.

Dr. Singh's research interests encompass Environmental Engineering, with a focus on drinking water quality, particularly addressing arsenic, fluoride, and nitrate contamination in groundwater sources. He is also involved in developing Environmental Decision Support Systems for solid waste management, water development planning, and smart cities. Additionally, his work includes river health assessment and restoration, examining metallic contamination in river sediments, and studying emerging pollutants.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Singh has held various positions at IIT (BHU), including serving as the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering from March 2016 to December 2019. He has been a member of the institute's Academic Council/Senate since 2010 and has contributed to the development of new academic programs, such as the M.Tech program in Geo-informatics Engineering introduced in 2017.

Dr. Singh is an active member of several professional societies, including the Indian Water Resources Society, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Institution of Engineers (India). His extensive research has led to numerous publications in esteemed journals, contributing significantly to advancements in environmental engineering and water resource management.
