Biography
Rebecca Wade is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science with extensive experience in research, consultancy, stakeholder training, teaching, Supervision and external examination. She is active in research and knowledge exchange activities, particularly in relation to applied management of the natural and built environment, sustainability, and climate change. By collaborating across disciplines, sectors, industry, policy and practice she strives to deliver multiple benefits from blue and green infrastructure which collectively address the climate emergency, the biodiversity crisis, and the creation of healthier communities for future generations.
Based at Abertay University, Dr Wade teaches students studying MEng/BEng Civil & Environmental Engineering, and MSc Environment programmes. Her research on blue and green infrastructure investigates how we can gain multiple benefits for society, nature, and our economy from the ways we design, engineer, and manage our built and natural environments. Her major research interests include multiple benefits delivery through enhanced understanding of Ecosystem Services; Nature Based Engineering and Ecosystem-based Management (particularly River Restoration, Natural Flood Management, SuDS, Green & Blue Infrastructure). She also leads an international network dedicated to sustainable water management (SUDSnet).
Rebecca is an award-winning STEM ambassador (named as UK STEM ambassador of the year 2022 by Institution of Civil Engineers), a gender-equality champion, a landscape champion in SAGES and Scotland’s Landscape Alliance, Associate Member of the ICE, Fellow of the RSA, Fellow of the HEA (Higher Education Academy), Director at Dundee Science Centre, Trustee of the Esk Rivers and Fisheries Trust, and has been named Woman of Influence 2022 by Action for Children Scotland. In 2019 she was selected for the prestigious international Homeward Bound initiative, a Women in STEMM leadership programme culminating in a life-changing voyage to Antarctica, one of the most ecologically sensitive and inspiring areas on Earth.
