Biography
Dr. Eric Jensen is a social scientist with a PhD in sociology from the University of Cambridge. He has 20+ years of research experience, working at the nexus of science, technology and society. He is CEO of the Institute for Methods Innovation (methodsinnovation.org), a non-profit organization, and a visiting research scientist at the University of Illinois. He is a part-time senior researcher in the Thriving Natural Capital Challenge Centre at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), contributing social science expertise to projects relating to biodiversity and climate action. Jensen is a leading expert on public engagement with science and technology, research impact and social acceptance. He has a track record of commissioned research and consulting on this topic for many government departments, agencies, and research institutions globally, such as UNESCO, Science Foundation Ireland and the European Space Agency. He has published 120+ articles, books, book chapters and official reports, including numerous influential policy reports for governments around the world. Jensen is on a long-term career break from a part-time professorship at the University of Warwick. Jensen's water-specific project experience includes leading on social acceptance research and public communication for Project O on water treatment innovation (https://www.eu-project-o.eu), as well as collaborating with Prof. Mark Reed on a Strategic Impact Review for CREW focusing on pathways to policy impact stemming from CREW-supported research (https://www.methodsinnovation.org/crew-impact-evaluation).
