I am a Lecturer in Environmental Sciences with research interests that include international sustainable development looking at the development or repurposing of technologies that can be used for multiple applications including environmental remediation, water, sanitation and hygiene (WaSH), healthcare settings and agri-food sectors.
My PhD developed point-of-use water treatment technologies for the production of drinking water. For this I focussed on the biological and chemical (trihalomethanes) quality of treated water, as well as comparing how different disinfectants manage the formation of biofilms on ultrafiltration membrane surfaces.
Since completing my PhD in 2019, I have worked on several research projects in the water, healthcare and agri-food fields. I have worked on international sustainable development projects with partners in India and Madagascar that focus on small-scale electrochemical treatment technologies. These projects aim to produce high quality drinking water, sterile solutions for wound irrigation and/or bio-compatible antimicrobials (hypochlorous acid) for use in resource constrained healthcare facilities or to wash fresh produce.
